I'll second Stephen's comments on FileMaker Pro.  I use it as my 
"gradebook," and with it, I keep track of all the misc. business type 
things (attendence, quiz scores, etc., etc.) the final grades (and since 
it does the math for me, it works very well once I work out the scale 
properly), and all of the comments I make on stuent papers, since there 
is a very capable word processing component.  It can be kind of a pain to 
set up a good database with all the fields and such, but once you get it 
going, it works great!
