This morning I voted in favor of having the "no flame" option because I thought
it would be helpful for those folks who have really old-n-scuzzy e-mail
systems. However, I think the wisest advice I have seen is what Carrie wrote:
4. We're all grown-ups capable of modifying our own behavior.
Now that we've been shown the error of our ways, we can get in the habit
of sending requests to individuals instead of posting them on the list;
at the very least, we can use subject headings like "for Beth only"
to warn others away from such messages. If we get lax, I'm sure
those for whom this issue is a *bete noir* will post gentle reminders.
Compromise is probably what is needed in the end. Learning to use our own
e-mail systems more wisely helps ALL of us manage the list and our own time
better, both in how we delete messages and in how we direct them.
Please everyone, can't we just all get along :)
