RE: Replies to posts

Centaurs--

Let me vote strongly against setting the reply option to go to the sender
rather than the list.

TECWR-L, another list I'm on, did this last year. It changes the nature of the
list. Yes, the list is now more business-like. It's also more boring, and
when I'm overloaded, it's the first list I delete without reading.

Email lists tend to reflect the community they represent. My sense of the
Writing Center community has always been that it has the advantage to not take
itself as seriously as other academic communities. I'd argue that gives
Writing Center folks more perspective, and ultimately more credibility with
folks outside the academy. (We simply don't hold the same overbearing view
of our own sense of self-importance that most academics wear as a badge.)

That's enough. I'm just supposed to be a lurker.

P.S. That other list is TECHWR-L. My editor won't let me go back edit.
(Maybe it's not really an editor then.)
