Here at the University of Delaware we have a weird setup for 
accountability.  We come under the English Department but are funded by 
the Dean's Office and have control over that without approval of Eng.  
I'm English faculty, funded partly from WC budget & partly from 
Eng. Dept., non-tenure track, full-time director, although I do teach one 
course on overload.  The Asst. Dir. is full-time, English faculty, 
non-tenure track, funded entirely by WC budget.  I have 7 part-time 
continuing faculty (non t.t.) and 10 part-time English Dept. TAs as staff 
plus 1 1/2 clerical people.  The English chair does my evaluation; I do 
the Asst. Dir.'s and the pt faculty; the Asst. Dir. does the TAs.  All 
very strange but we do have a lot of autonomy since noone really wants to 
bother us as long as we produce.
