David Beard's "Pass the chicken" stratgies and others must be working; we got a
thank-you card from the esl-intensive FY comp class, addressed to the entire
writing center staff, signed by all the students.  

The teacher tells me she's never had such a productive
semester, with as many ESL students coming in for weekly appointments and
making real progress.

Way to go, David and the rest of the staff.
