Uhhh, David? Would you pass the chicken?

Seriously, one of the tutors here has found that giving choices can
be beneficial in an ESL tutorial. That is, give the student some
alternate readings using possible words, punctuation or syntax. He
successfully draws the relationship between "hearing" that inner voive t
that's reading a text, "hearing" that in English and then discussing
the difference between the rules ( if there are likely alternative
choices, or the rule--if there's only one that holds). This has to
be done with an eye to instructing not to confusing or playing
the choose-the-right-one game that ESL students--or ANY students--really
don't need.
