I'm new to UMM this quarter and still trying to figure things out, but as one 
result of Angela Gulick's impressive efforts to improve our Writing Room's 
status, I was hired as a tenure-track assistant professor to 1) coordinate the 
composition program, 2) run the Writing Room (previously coordinated by 
non-tenure-track temporary faculty who took turns doing the administrative 
work), and 3) teach a variety of literature courses as the rest of the 
tenure-line faculty do in this small department.  I teach, as every tenure-line 
faculty member here does, one comp and one lit class a quarter, but after this 
year I will get course relief (one class a year) for coordinating the comp 
program, with the WR duties sort of thrown in as part of that work.  Our 
minuscule budget, however, is separate from that of the English department.  
Since Angela really orchestrated this coup, she could describe better how it was
achieved.
