I'm in the process of developing guidelines for ESL writers in high
school to become more confident in their ability to give feedback to
their peers, both within the ESL writing class as well as in regular
classes to non-ESL students.
I find that much of the research that's out there pertains to
the non-ESL writers, and needs to be adapted to ESL students' needs. I'm
convinced that they too can effectively give feedback to others, given the
proper guidance. I'd also welcome comments as to the type of feedback
that works in ESL student-teacher conferences (both oral and written).
Again, I've found a variety of categories, including Reader-based,
Emotional, Challenging, Editorial, among others.
What type of feedback works best and at what step in the writing process?
Any comments on this topic are welcome.
