hen I was asked to serve as interim president last year, I accepted the role with sense of humility and pride. My goal was simple: I wanted to do more than maintain the success we had accomplished to that point; I wanted to expand on it and continue the university’s upward trajectory. Through the contributions of students, faculty and staff, we did that—together.
Over the past year, there are many accomplishments of which we should be proud: a significant addition of new faculty including the hiring of some of the world's most accomplished scholars; approval of new construction projects along with the renovation and opening of buildings that enhance student life and scholarly pursuits. We've produced groundbreaking research, scholarship, and performances that have received worldwide attention.
At our core is a community of faculty, staff and students, who enable us to continue Texas Tech University’s progress as one of the nation's top research institutions. This is a place where students can not only learn in the classrooms, but also participate and contribute in research and learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom environment. This is a place where faculty pursue scholarship and creative activities that advance their disciplines but also enhances their teaching effectiveness and the educational experiences for our students. This is a place of pride, tradition and academic achievement.
This is Texas Tech University.

exas Tech University is a place of great achievement. It has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence through research, classroom teaching, and extracurricular scholarly endeavors by its faculty, students and staff.
We have a reputation nationally as an institution of accomplishment in contributions to higher education, and that reputation continues to rise. Texas Tech has been the benefactor of strong leadership in the past, and I look forward to continuing in that vein and leading our wonderfully talented groups of faculty, staff and students. We want them to be successful, and together we will ensure they have the resources to achieve their goals.
I am honored to be in this position and have the opportunity to lead Texas Tech University, and embrace the limitless possibilities the future holds for this great institution.
