Texas Tech University Worldwide eLearning supports an Online Accessibility Lab (OAL) for assistance to instructors to provide accessible instructional materials.

Captioning Assistance

Texas Tech University Captioning Policy

On July 11, 2016, President Schovanec sent a memo discussing TTU's Closed Captioning of Educational Materials. In this memo, he states, "Worldwide eLearning [will] oversee and assist with the captioning of instructional materials for Texas Tech University. Although the coordination of the captioning would be provided through Worldwide eLearning, the cost of captioning videos that must be outsourced will be the responsibility of the individual colleges." The memo also included the Texas Tech Captioning Policy.

Worldwide eLearning provides three levels of support for varied costs:

  • Movie Captioner, a software for self-captioning. Available as a download on eRaider.
  • In-house captions for videos between 15-40 minutes long.
  • 3rd party vendor: $2.07 per minute for all courses with a letter of accommodation for captions, videos over 40 minutes and video needed in less than 2 weeks.

Get Captioning Assistance from the OAL

If you need captioning assistance, please fill out the online Captioning Request Form. Once we have your information, we will be in contact.

Accessibility Evaluation

Is the online material you are using accessible? The OAL can conduct an evaluation for you to determine the accessibility of the following:

  • Your online course in Blackboard
  • Instructional online content in another website
  • A website that you would like to use in your course
  • Content from a publisher

If you are interested in an evaluation, please submit the Accessibility Evaluation Request Form.

Provide Accessible Content

All content in your course must be accessible. This includes Powerpoint presentations, PDFs, documents, etc. If you need help with making these documents accessible, the OAL can help you with this process. Please email the Online Accessibility Lab for assistance.
